On Friday, July 16th more than 75 youth kicked off our Summer of Service with project presentations about how:
1. Television Shows Effect Our Self-esteem & Body Image
2. Dancing improves Health
3. Sports improves our Health
4. Violence Impacts our Health & Well-being
The Summer of Service is a program of the Department of Youth & Community Development sponsored by the Neuberger Bermen Foundation. Beacon 226 of the Child Center of NY is one of twenty-five Beacons selected to host events throughout the summer that promote service for an cause that impacts youth and families in their communities.
The youth of the South Ozone Park Beacon at MS 226 in Queens chose health as their service learning topic and are hosting
1. Baby Care & Household Items Donation Drive for Ronald McDonald House from until July 23rd
2. Health Fair & Carnival on July 30th including community surveying
3. Health & Fitness Field Day on August 5th including youth surveying
The youth will end the summer on Aug. 13th with presentations of PSAs, dance performances, and magazine release.
